The Parliament Building is open Monday - Friday and since we arrived Friday morning we decided to tour it. This was my first time in the building and I was very impressed. The building was designed by Francis Rattenbury when he was 25 years old. Many buildings in Victoria including the Empress Hotel were designed by him.
At 10 am Monday morning the Legislator was in session so we joined other people of the public on the third floor to watch British Columbia's government run and it was exciting! On one side of the room was the New Democratic Party members and the other side had the British Columbia Liberal Party. Each time a speaker from a party wanted to address the Legislative Assembly they'd place a podium in front of them and their party would pound the desks. All questions to the opposition party were through the speaker which would be followed by the speaker asking the person mentioned to respond accompanied by lots of desk pounding by their party.
Note: I have no photos of the Legislative Assembly in progress as they wouldn't let phones or cameras in.
I highly recommend going to see this in action as it was quite interesting.
