For a town the size of Victoria that's on an island too far north to have good produce I'm consistently surprised at the quality of food. Our favorite little restaurant - Hank's Untraditional BBQ was shut down temporarily while they reinvent themselves according to the Eat magazine. It seems they want to make any kind of food they want instead of being hamstrung by BBQ.
We decided to try a different breakfast spot that gets rave reviews on Yelp called Jam. We had to wait in line just like we do at the Blue Fox. The inside was more farm/woodsie/hillbilly than the Blue Fox and we ended up sitting at the bar. The food at Jam is largely the same thing every other restaurant sells but in a different shape. You want hash browns, eggs, biscuits and gravy in a bowl? It's called the Charlie Bowl. Same flavors, different shape. I had the pork belly benedict which was impossible to eat without a buzz saw and the hollandaise sauce was mysteriously firm. Don't get me wrong, in Seattle this would be an amazing place to eat. But this isn't Seattle is it? It's Victoria and they have the Blue Fox!
The Blue Fox is the best hands down. It's worth the wait, just trust me, go there, stand, order the Oranges del Sol if you like French toast or the Moroccan Benedict. You can thank me later.
Oh, and by the way, don't eat tacos in Victoria. Just don't - they're bad.
