• Learn how to choose your computer components wisely based on price, performance and features. In this class you will learn about IDE and SCSI hard drives, memory types, Intel and AMD processors as well as how to keep them cool. In addition to this we will talk about video cards and discuss current products from ATI and nVidia. We will show you how to mod your computer using lights, windows, fans and discuss pitfalls to avoid. You will get the opportunity to assemble and troubleshoot a PC during this class. Not only will you build the entire computer in class but you will learn how to install and use modern operating systems including Windows XP and Linux in a dual boot environment.

Students will have the choice of building a PC using parts supplied by Shoreline Community College or purchasing the needed components from a list created by our A+ certified instructor. The items on the list are quality components from name brand manufacturers and will cost less than you expect. All components need to be ordered at least one week prior to the class start date. Students will pick up the list and a copy of Mandrake Linux 10.0 on three cd-roms when they register and pay for the class.

This class is for high school students with DOS and Windows skills and a penchant for learning.
