About Desktop Users Guides The Desktop Users Guides here are a resource to you and an experiment for me. In the next few months I'm going to be doing quite a bit of writing unless more contracts get in the way. I'm going to experiment with having virgin Linux distributions on several machines and everytime I write a chapter or howto for one I will try to duplicate the text and modify it for another. If it works on a small scale I may start writing books concurrently.Eventually there will be Power Users Guides as well. Most Linux books like the Bible series from Wiley try to be everything to everybody. I like the idea that you would have a book written for the user that is primarily a desktop user and only venturing into the commandline on occasion. Power User guides will be more in depth with more complex howtos, shell interaction, desktop hacks etc... |
